The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has started an inspection throughout the country for the quality of the ice cream on offer, and at the very beginning of the inspections it has registered violations.

The most common omissions of traders in our country are related to the lack of work clothes of the staff. In some places they did not store ice cream at the mandatory temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius, which is why two prescriptions were issued.

The lower storage temperature, in addition to slightly melting the ice cream, also predisposes it to spoil faster.

The BFSA inspectors will also check the expiration date, the accompanying documents, the obligatory health books for the staff and the hygiene of the sites.

Dr. Silvia Kamenova from the Agency says that these are the mandatory requirements for all sites in our country that sell food products.

The ice cream will also be monitored to see if it is fresh, because according to regulations it should not be melted and then frozen again.

The expert advised customers to buy ice cream only from regulated places and in case of doubt about the quality of the product to contact the Food Agency by phone 0700 122 99 or on their official website.

During the inspections, samples were taken for laboratory tests. The results will be announced at the end of the campaign.

The BFSA's inspection will continue throughout the country, inspecting wholesale and retail outlets as well as temporary mobile sites such as ice cream machines. In Sofia alone, more than 50 sites have been inspected so far.

In case of established lack of work clothes, a prescription is issued, and in the absence of labels and documents of origin, the trader is sanctioned, and the fine starts from BGN 2,000.
