The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) reports a drastic decline in violations on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. This is shown by the summarized data from the performed inspections at the food establishments and the establishments at our seaside resorts.

The joyful trend, in the opinion of the BFSA experts, is the several-fold reduction of violations with the same volume of inspections.

During this year's summer tourist season, much fewer discrepancies were found in the retail outlets and, accordingly, much fewer prescriptions were issued for their elimination.

During the active summer season in 2013, 4,500 inspections were carried out. 199 acts for establishing an administrative violation have been drawn up. For comparison, in 2011 618 acts were drawn up, and in 2012 their number was 259.

The owners of restaurants and shops on the sea are more and more strictly observing the requirements of the Bulgarian legislation in the field of food safety, the experts from the BFSA state.

The analysis of the results of the inspections of the BFSA shows that the number of sites to which the most severe sanction has been imposed has also decreased - temporary suspension of the activity due to established discrepancies.

The record in this regard was 2011, when 63 violators were forced to "close the shutters". In 2012, 12 establishments were closed. Only one site was closed in 2013.

BFSA experts report that in 2013 there were no cases of diseases caused by unfit or improperly stored food.

Despite several cases in which there were suspicions of various food poisonings, rapid tests and inspections by the BFSA Regional Directorates have clearly shown that the diseases are due to summer viral infections or infection of people by staff at retail outlets.
