Sugar-free gum really weakens, according to a study by researchers at the University of Rhode Island last fall.
The experts set out to find out how chewing gum affects human weight and whether it also affects daily calorie intake.
Scientists have concluded that sugar-free chewing gum not only helps reduce calorie intake, but also increases energy costs.
The team tested two groups of volunteers - those who chew gum and others who do not.
The first group chewed gum every morning for an hour. The researchers concluded that at lunch, these people consumed 67 fewer calories. They were also less hungry after chewing gum, full of energy and consumed more of it.
How chewing gum works
According to researchers, chewing stimulates the nerves and muscles of the jaw and in turn sends signals to the part of the brain that is responsible for appetite and satiety.
The authors of the study also believe that chewing about 15 minutes a day can burn more than 50 calories.
According to other studies, chewing gum reduces stress and improves concentration.
