A recent study in Tel Aviv proves the link between headaches and chewing gum. Young people who suffer from headaches and chew gum regularly can easily overcome the problem by simply giving up chewing gum.
The study involved a group of young people with chronic migraines who regularly chewed gum. 87% of them survived the migraine after getting out of the habit. 20% of the participants started chewing gum again after the study and the headache returned.
Headaches are common in childhood. It increases in adolescence, especially in girls. Such migraines are usually triggered by stress, fatigue, lack of sleep, heat, video games, noise, sunlight, smoking, skipping meals and menstruation. The study reveals another of the root causes of the problem.
Chewing gum loads the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jaw to the skull. Such tension leads to headaches. The researchers explain that children chew gum between 1 and 6 hours a day. This also guarantees pain.
Israeli researchers also note that many headache patients chew gum daily. In many cases, when patients stopped chewing gum, they felt significantly better.
Years ago, another non-traditional cause of headaches was identified, namely plastic cups and bottles. A certain chemical in synthetic packaging may be responsible for the appearance of migraines.
Plastic trays, cups, bottles and office water coolers are potential sources of the harmful chemical Bisphenol A. It is already linked to a number of health problems, including obesity, infertility and heart attack. It has also been found to cause severe headaches that affect millions of people around the world.
A person can reduce the chemical levels in his body by 66% in just three days after stopping the use of plastic. Excluding the harmful chemical can reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.
