Bulgarian yellow cheese cannot be offered at a price below BGN 8. With such a price, the product shows that it is not Bulgarian and most likely not yellow cheese, said the vice-president of the Association of Dairy Producers in Bulgaria Simeon Prisadashki.
The expert believes that due to the Russian embargo, the dairy business is suffering heavy losses. According to him, only a month after it came into force, the embargo has led to a drop in raw milk prices.
For the first time it happens in December that Bulgarian milk processors do not want to buy raw milk, reduce their production, reduce their production, as there are large quantities of finished dairy products in warehouses - said the expert, quoted by BGNES.
Graft even added that he expects a more serious collapse in the industry after January 1, when the last contracts between producers and processors will expire.
According to him, the state should help dairy farmers in this situation by granting them additional subsidies.
In the last 3 months, dairy products have been offered on the Bulgarian markets, which are not even yellow cheese, but steamed cheeses. Most of them, however, are repackaged with a label of yellow cheese and Bulgarian.
The fraudulent products are sold at lower prices in the range of BGN 7-8, so that consumers can grab them without thinking that they are not buying real yellow cheese.
According to the expert, such a practice is a fact due to the reduced control of the responsible institutions.
The new food labeling requirements, which are already in place in the European Union, have already officially entered into force.
According to the new regulations, the ingredients of the products must be written in a large enough font to be readable. The expiration date must also be clearly visible.
The new rules affect not only food in shops, but also home deliveries - for example, pizza orders, as well as food intended for the supply of restaurants.
