It often happens in the kitchen chaos. If the milk in the refrigerator smells of onions, the apples are rotten and you are afraid to open the drawers because you may never be able to close them afterwards, follow these simple rules to tidy up this important room in your home.
In the fridge
Supermarkets give you a clear indication of where the products you buy should be stored. Some of your purchases need to be refrigerated after opening until a certain date. It will be a great relief for you if you mark on them when they were opened. Also, ready-to-eat foods such as yogurt, butter and cooked meats should always be placed on the upper or middle shelves.
All products that are to be heat treated, ie. raw meat and fish should be placed on the lower shelves so as not to drip and contaminate other foods. Avoid putting smelly foods such as onions, specific cheeses or smoked fish in the refrigerator for too long. When specific products need to be stored cold, place them in food boxes.
In the freezer
Often when you fail to consume the dish you have prepared, it goes in the freezer. This calms your conscience to some extent by not throwing it directly into the trash. After a few months, however, these delays are not on the agenda and you can easily dispose of the highly frozen substance.
It is best for each product you put in the freezer to have a label of what it is and when it is placed. It is also a good practice to inspect the products you store in the freezer at least once a month.
In the dark
It is best to store oil and olive oil away from light. The same goes for onions, potatoes and garlic, and in addition they must be in a dry place. The brown paper bag is the ideal way to store these products.
Fruit bowls and vegetarian shelves
Store root vegetables out of the refrigerator in fruit bowls, and vegetables, especially leafy vegetables, on refrigerator shelves. Store citrus fruits, strawberries, cherries, pineapple and watermelon in a cool place.
Shelves and cabinets
Arrange your kitchen cabinets from the inside out. Place the less used products at the bottom and the most necessary ones at the front.
Also keep pans, cookware, utensils and trays close to the stove. Keep knives, measuring spoons, scales and cutting board close to the kitchen counter. Keep utensils, cutlery and towels near the sink.
