The pink tomato from Kurtovo Konare found itself in the World Treasury of Tastes of the international organization Slow Food, informs BTV.
Recently, the pink tomato and the local Kurtov apple were registered in the electronic catalog of the international organization, which searches for rare food products from all over the world.
So far, nearly a thousand types of food have been collected, of which only four originate from Bulgaria. Unique representatives of the Bulgarian table are nafpavok, Bulgarian green cheese and Smilyan beans.
There you can even see the native Karakachan sheep, as in the treasury there is a special sector for breeds and varieties.
The Kurtov apple attracts the attention of the organization, as it can be seen extremely rarely. Trees of this species are almost non-existent even in Kurtovo Kanare itself.
The unique fruit is distinguished by its small size. The apples are red in stripes, with a sweet-sour taste. The locals used them in the production of juices or dried them.
At the moment, employees of Slow Food are expected to come to the mecca of the delicious pink tomatoes and the Kurtov apple to advise the local population on what exactly to do in order to be able to preserve their rare plant species.
In Bulgaria there are already three presidiums-projects for the preservation of our gastronomic treasures through economic support of local communities by producers of traditional foods.
The name of the international NGO Slow Food means slow food. The association was founded in 1986 in Italy, and the idea was to help preserve local gastronomic traditions.
In addition, the organization aims to promote the cultivation of traditional crops and local breeds of domestic animals.
Slow Food is attended by over one hundred thousand people, with the participation of over one hundred and thirty countries from around the world. Our country also joined the organization ten years ago.
At the heart of Slow Food is a varied and delicious food. However, it must be produced in an environmentally friendly manner and its producers must be fairly rewarded.
