Daikon is a type of turnip with a long white root. It does not accumulate heavy metals and radionuclides. It is juicy and has high taste qualities. It is widely used in traditional Japanese medicine due to its incredible healing properties. Daikon successfully cleanses the liver, bile and kidneys. The substances contained in turnips break down kidney stones.
Daikon turnips contain many vitamins, pectin, glucosides, essential oils, phytoncides, magnesium, potassium and iron. This medicinal vegetable improves digestion and metabolism. The high content of cellulose significantly lowers cholesterol levels. Daikon is also recommended for the treatment of the heart and brain.
Ready-to-eat Japanese turnips are usually a little more than 25 centimeters long. It has a white or slightly pink color. As it matures, its ascorbic acid content increases. The vegetables are extremely durable and easy to store.
100 grams of it contain less than 20 calories. Frequent consumption of turnips activates the metabolism, which, in turn, leads to rapid breakdown of fat. In the Far East, turnips are used as a side dish to heavy and fatty meats. Other applications are in salads and pickles. Ideally combined with carrots and beets.
Here are two quick and easy recipes with daikon.
Daikon on a frying pan
All you need is half a turnip, sesame oil, salt. Cut the daikon into 1 cm thick circles. Pour enough sesame oil into the pan to coat the surface. When you are sure that the surface is very hot, cover it with sliced turnips. Fry until lightly browned on both sides.
Remove from the pan and leave on kitchen paper to absorb the excess oil, which should not be much. Add the drains daikon in a plate and sprinkle with a little salt.
If you do not want to eat fried, but want something lighter, for two servings you need 2 medium carrots, a head of beets, 100 grams of daikon, salt, lemon juice, olive oil. Grate all products, season and stir. Good taste is guaranteed.
