The Russian Consumer Protection Commission has been asked to ban the royal and ordinary cheeseburger, chicken burger and fish fillet in all McDonald's chains in the country.

The ban will also cover some of the milk shakes and ice creams on offer.

Russia cited inappropriate physico-chemical parameters in the content of the products offered by McDonald's as the reason for their desire.

The Consumer Protection Commission has filed a lawsuit. If they succeed, the production and distribution of burgers, shakes and ice cream will be punished by law.

McDonald's said it had not received any complaints or information about a lawsuit against them from the Russian regulator. The fast food chain assures its customers that its products are prepared according to the laws in Russia.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 13, and the actual trial will take place in September.

Just three months ago, McDonald's withdrew from annexed Crimea, after which many Russian politicians said that all fast food restaurants in Russia should be closed.

Data from last year show that the Russian market is one of the largest foreign markets at McDonald's along with Canada. The first restaurants of the chain were opened in 1990, and to date their number reaches 400.

Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that fast food chains also offer traditional Russian specialties such as Ossetian pies.

"We have a wonderful kitchen. The question is how to organize industrial production, which is of better quality than possible competition," Putin said.

The Russian head of state recommended that the American food chain focus on home-cooked food that attracts customers with its low price. According to him, McDonald's can also offer Ossetian pies, chuck-chuck, Tatar whites and other Russian national dishes.
