There is no person who does not know how harmful GMO products are. Despite all the restrictions on the market, willingly or unwillingly, such foods slip between them and reach the store shelves, and then to our table.

Different genetically modified foods have changed in different ways. In some the activity of the genes has been changed, in others there are additional DNA strands, and in others genes of another type of organism have been added.

Although genetic engineering has been known for centuries in the form of crossbreeding of different species by gardeners and breeders, its modern version is much more dangerous. The reason for this is the use of huge amounts of chemically harmful substances in the very process of changing the body. This, in turn, leads to a number of problems such as reproductive difficulties, damage to various organs, cancer, immune deficiency and other diseases.

Although people all over the world want a ban on GMO products, the truth is that today 70 percent of food is of such origin and nothing is being done to reduce its quantity on the market, on the contrary.

In mid-April, the European Union gave the green light for the legal import of such products from the United States and Canada. It is obvious that there are almost no legal means for the society to fight this. That is why it is important for people to know how to recognize GMO products and avoid them.

GMO foods are always better in appearance. They are shiny, round, even. There is no damage to them and they are extremely durable. It is not normal. Natural vegetables and fruits are not perfect. They break down quickly, have bruises, are smaller and even unsightly. The most important thing, however, is that they have taste.

Avoid buying food out of season. Buy irregularly shaped ones, even if they look ugly. Prefer local production. On your way to a vacation or another business trip, stop and buy what you need from the vegetable growers by the road, instead of from the shiny supermarket. In addition to helping them, you will do something good for your health.

Read the labels. Avoid products from countries where GMOs are allowed. For example, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, China and India produce 86 percent of the world's GMO products. On the other hand, France, Hungary and Poland, for example, categorically ban and even prosecute GMO production.

Proven GMO production in Bulgaria are soybean oil in sauces, pastes, biscuits and fried foods, soybean meal in minced meat, hamburgers, vegetable oils in biscuits and chips, maltodextrin in baby food, ready-made soups and desserts, glucose as a sweetener in beverages desserts, syrups with high fructose content - sweeter than dextrose, used in the same type of products. Last but not least are the cheap salamis and sausages.
