You get up in the morning - your head hurts, the room turns, and your stomach rebels. It is clear that the night before you overdid it with fun and to be more precise - with alcohol. The first thing many of those in this situation do is rush to take a hangover pill. Paracetamol most often comes to the rescue.

However, a new study recently proved the age-old Bulgarian wisdom against hangovers, namely that a wedge kills a wedge. Researchers claim that drinking two beers can relieve pain much more easily than taking pills.

The discovery was attributed to scientists from the University of Greenwich. They managed to prove that beer consumption reduces the discomfort of a hangover by a quarter. They proved that increasing the content of alcohol in the blood increases the body's tolerance to pain and thus significantly reduces its intensity.

The findings indicate that alcohol is an effective analgesic that provides a clinically relevant reduction in pain intensity. This explains the abuse of alcohol in people with constant pain, despite the possible consequences for long-term health, the researchers report.

However, it is not yet clear whether alcohol reduces the feeling of pain because it affects brain receptors or because it simply reduces anxiety, which then leads us to think that the pain is not so severe.

Alcohol can be compared to opioid drugs such as codeine, and its effect is much stronger than that of paracetamol, said study leader Dr Trevor Thompson of the University of Greenwich in London.

Currently, the goal of scientists is to create painkillers based on alcohol, while avoiding its harmful effects. However, they explain that the results of their new study do not mean that alcohol is good for us.
