Traditionally, three things should be present at the Easter table - a dish of lamb, painted eggs and Easter cake. Chefs from the French city of Bizet will break old traditions by preparing eggs in the largest omelet.
This omelette has been prepared annually in the French city since 1973. It was scrambled with 15,000 eggs last year, and for this Easter the chefs are ready to break last year's record.
The purpose of the giant omelette is to strengthen all those present who will watch the cooking of the record omelet. And this time the best chefs will be involved in the preparation of the omelet, mixing it with huge wooden spoons.
The chefs' last omelette was mixed with huge spatulas, and the ingredients were mixed in a large stainless steel pan. The fire was traditionally lit in the center of the city, and after the omelet was ready, everyone present ate it along with a free slice of bread.
According to a legend, the preparation of the omelet began during the reign of Emperor Napoleon, who arrived in Bizie and asked to have an omelet made for him.
As this is the specialty of the South of France, Napoleon really liked the omelet and asked for a bigger portion. They had to collect eggs from all over the city to satisfy the emperor's appetite.
The preparation of the omelet will begin on April 16, when both the Catholic and Orthodox worlds will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.
It is rare for Easter in the Orthodox calendar to coincide with Easter in the Catholic calendar, as it is this year, and France is one of the countries where the holiday is accompanied by lavish celebrations.
