A famous quote says Having no bread, eat pasta. Nowadays, there are thousands of recipes for delicious and fluffy bread, but definitely each of us would eat cake again and again. In the morning - aromatic coffee, a piece of cake - cinnamon aroma, some raisins for finesse, chocolate and two lumps of sugar - confection worthy of Milan.

In the afternoon or after dinner, the cake completes each meal. It is rooted in our celebrations and holidays and we can hardly imagine an occasion without it - birthdays, engagements, weddings. It is difficult to name an occasion for which the magic dessert does not fit.

And there is nothing easier than homemade cake - a little time, a lot of love and carefully selected ingredients.

Cakes are so popular that you can find them almost anywhere - from ready-made dough mixes, ready-made cakes, and even completely ready in ice cream freezers. Cakes are sold all over the city in bakeries, restaurants, cafes and even at gas stations.

Have you ever wondered why the cake is round? Some think it has something to do with its ancient predecessor, when it looked more like bread. There are even legends that she baked on a hot stone under the hot sun.

These prototypes of today's cakes are believed to have been made for the first time in the last period of the Stone Age, and the claims are based on evidence from archaeologists from the remains of Neolithic settlements.

Later, the ancient Egyptians developed ovens that offered a much more reliable method of baking. The Greeks introduced cakes called plakous (meaning flat), which are usually a combination of nuts and honey.

In the Roman era, things really started to show signs of cooking - or baking, so to speak. Roman SATURA are flat heavy cakes with ingredients such as barley, raisins, pine nuts, pomegranate seeds and sweet wine.

Another popular cake of the time was libum, a precursor to today's cheesecake, which was used primarily as a sacrifice to the gods (Jupiter apparently did not count calories). In the last years of the Roman Empire, ingredients such as butter, cream, eggs, spices and sugar began to be added to cakes.

The evolution of the cake continued during the Renaissance, when the Italians introduced biscuits. Food historians believe that these were the first biscuit cakes, although these thin crunchy cakes probably look more like a cookie than a cake.

In the middle of the 18th century, round baking trays began to be used for baking, resembling today's baking forms.

By the middle of the 19th century, the cake already took its rightful place among desserts. Over the years, many ingredients, many methods and what or not have been tested. The ovens were modernized, new appliances, stirrers, molds, etc. appeared.

But one thing has not changed for centuries - people's love for cake.
