The donkey thistle is a herbaceous plant of the family Compositae. It is a prickly plant, reaching a height of 2 meters. It blooms in July-August and has bright purple flowers, "stuck" in a thorny basket.

This plant contains: macronutrients - potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron; trace elements - manganese, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, phosphorus, chromium, aluminum, boron, etc.; fat-soluble vitamins - flavolignan, quercetin; vitamins - K, E, B1, B3, D; polyunsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, essential oils, biogenic amines (histamine, tyramine).

The first serious study of this plant was made by German researchers in the late 60's. Experiments have shown that it is very effective in treating liver diseases such as dystrophy, hepatitis and cirrhosis caused by alcohol, toxins, radiation.

Today the donkey thorn is used:

- In hepatology for the treatment of liver diseases;

- In toxicology for chronic poisoning by alcohol, drugs, chemicals and food poisoning;
