How does scale form?
Water contains different minerals and salts in different amounts. Some of them, calcium and magnesium salts, form a solid precipitate when boiling. The more salts in the water, the faster the scale layer appears. Of course, water can be purified with the help of filters, but this will only slow down limestone formation. In ordinary kettles, scale forms on the bottom and inner walls, and in electric kettles - on the heating element, which comes into contact with water.
Many manufacturers of teapots and jugs recommend the use of special detergents to remove scale. You can find them in almost all stores and supermarkets. For to remove limestone, you must strictly follow the instructions and recommendations of the cleaner so as not to damage the parts of the device.
Cleaning of scale with citric acid
Calculus removal with citric acid is quite a simple, affordable and effective way. Suitable for all types of jugs (stainless steel, ceramics, enameled, electrical plastics and glass) is moderate or weak limestone.
METHOD: Dissolve 20 g of citric acid in 1.5 liters of water, pour the resulting solution into the jug and bring to a boil. Then soak for another 30 minutes or cool completely. Pour out the liquid and rinse gently with a soft sponge. Pour clean water again and boil it, pour it out and rinse the jug.
Cleaning scale with vinegar
Pour 1 liter of water and 100 ml of vinegar into the jug, turn on the jug to boil the water and let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Repeat this procedure and leave to soak for 20 minutes. Pour the mixture and wash gently with a soft sponge. Pour clean water again, boil the water and pour, rinse the jug.
Calculus cleaning with baking soda
Pour 1 liter of water into the jug and bring to a boil. In boiling water pour 1-2 tbsp. baking soda and leave for 30 minutes to soak. Wash well with a soft sponge and pour clean water, bring to a boil. Pour out the water and rinse the jug.
Soda, vinegar and citric acid for thick and old scale
For this triple limestone blow, pour 700 ml of water into the jug and add 3 tbsp. baking soda and bring to a boil, soak for 10 minutes and pour the solution.
Pour 700 ml of water and add 2-3 tbsp. citric acid and bring to a boil, leave to soak for 10 minutes and pour. Pour 700 ml of water into the jug and 250 ml of vinegar, bring to a boil and soak for 5 minutes, pour the solution. Carefully wash the jug with a soft sponge and pour clean water again, bring to a boil and pour the water, rinse the jug.
For a weak and moderate scale, use a lemon
Pour water in the jug, bring to a boil and put two quarters of a lemon, leave to soak for 60-90 minutes until completely cooled, pour the mixture and rinse the jug with a soft sponge. Pour clean water again and bring to a boil, pour out the water and rinse the jug.
Useful tips for descaling
- Use only filtered or bottled water for boiling;
- The same water is boiled only once in the jug, for the next boiling it is good to have fresh water;
- Wash the inside of the jug with a soft sponge without detergent at least once a day. If possible, it is best to scrape the remnants of water into the jug after use after each cooking;
- Do not leave any residual water after use.
