Although in our country the cake is known from the Turkish cuisine, the homeland of baklava is disputed by several countries in the Islamic world and Greece.

It is believed that the first baklava was prepared in Mesopotamia in the VIII century, as the original recipe included ground peels, honey and crushed nuts, and reached the table of the Europeans thanks to the Greeks.

Different nations have perfected the taste of the sweet temptation, with the Armenians first adding cinnamon and cloves, and the Arabs flavoring the baklava with rose water and cardamom.

The honey, which was originally sprinkled on the cake, was later replaced with sugar syrup from our familiar recipes to better preserve baklava, because due to the hot climate in the Arab countries, baklava spoils faster.

One of the most interesting facts about baklava is that it is a strong aphrodisiac because of the products from which it is prepared - nuts, sugar, cinnamon.

The richness of the variety of types of cake we owe to the chefs in the palace of the Turkish sultans, who invented various fillings for baklava.
