From 3 pork chops, which you put on your table, 2 are produced in Poland, France or Germany, and only one in Bulgaria, according to data from industry organizations and the National Statistical Institute.

However, the chicken meat is mainly Bulgarian production and is concentrated mainly on the Bulgarian market.

However, pork imports are high, with the largest quantities coming from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain.

According to the forecasts of the Center for Economic Research in Agriculture (SARA), in the next 5 years the import of pork on the Bulgarian markets will increase by up to 115 thousand tons.

For the current 2017, imports were 108 thousand tons, which is a slight decrease compared to the previous 2016, when it was 109 thousand tons.

Market research earlier in the year showed that imported pork is more preferred by our people because it is up to 30% lower than Bulgarian.

A kilo of pork from Spain, Germany or Romania sells for between BGN 4 and 4.50, and the Association of Pig Breeders in Bulgaria suspects that these steaks are processed with food additives.

According to Dobrin Papazov, chairman of the Association, the products are injected with solutions that increase their weight, and so consumers pay for water, not pure meat.
