Shrimp are the favorite seafood of many people. Yes, they taste great, but before you start cooking, make sure you don't make any of these mistakes that would ruin your efforts.

1. You bought "fresh" shrimp

At first glance, this doesn't make sense - fresh food is always better than frozen food, isn't it? But in this case, this is only the case if you buy live shrimp. Otherwise, you will most likely buy thawed, and who knows when. So don't make this mistake, because your culinary endeavor can fail with a bang.

2. Defrost them incorrectly

You got frozen shrimp - good. But here comes the next one often allowed error in cooking shrimp, namely thawing. You should never use a microwave oven or leave them on the hob to defrost on their own. The best way is to leave them in the fridge overnight.

3. You cook them for too long

Like most seafood, shrimp do not need much cooking time. If they are rolled in the shape of the letter O, then you have gone too far with cooking. The finished shrimp must be pink, opaque and non-rolled.

4. You haven't cleaned them

Shrimp intestines may contain sand and mud, which is not very pleasant to eat. So rip them apart and clean well.

5. You leave them the shells

People in many parts of the world eat shrimp with the shells and this is not considered a big deal. They are crunchy! But not all. So, if you are going to welcome guests, you can embarrass them a lot by forcing them to peel each shrimp "in public". Unless you are sure that your guests are eating them with the shells, you better save them the inconvenience and remove the shells in advance.

These are the main mistakes in cooking shrimp and of course not all. Each food has its own specifics in preparation, so you should always be aware of it so as not to fail.
