The existing classifications are a consequence of a number of normative acts, which are based on the Law on Wine and Spirits.

The definition of wine states that it is a product obtained exclusively by the total or partial alcoholic fermentation of crushed or uncrushed fresh grapes or grape must from fresh grapes. The three main types are white, rosé and red wine. From here, they are divided into categories, subcategories, types and types of wines.

In the category of wine categories there are two - table and quality wines produced in a particular region. The naming of the category is mandatory to indicate the commercial presentation of each wine.

In the case of table wines, regional table wines are also established. To be designated as such, a wine must be made from grapes obtained in the wine-growing region whose name it bears. If so, it may bear the relevant geographical indication.

In addition, a similar geographical indication can be used for regional wine, which is a blend of wines produced from grapes originating in different wine-growing regions. The condition is that 85% of the grapes originate from the wine-growing region whose name the respective regional wine bears.

Each regional wine is approved by an order of the Minister of Agriculture and Food under conditions and by order, determined in an ordinance. It has been established that the indication regional wine can replace the indication table wine.
