Bulgarian producers said that torrential rains this year destroyed much of the apricot and cherry crop, and the surviving fruit trees were treated with preparations.

In order to enter the market, a large part of the Bulgarian cherries and apricots have undergone processing, which will require an increase in their prices.

The bad weather has completely destroyed 70 decares of fruit trees in Silistra, and a large part of the cherries in Kyustendil have been completely destroyed, and the damages caused by the rains amount to millions.

Growers in Kyustendil say that many years ago many locals took leave to participate in picking cherries, but this year this did not happen because state funding was lower than in previous years.

"When we pay the pickers and calculate the other costs, it turns out that in order to grow cherries, we need to have other income to sponsor the production ourselves," said a local farmer.

Fruit growers from Kyustendil say that no unit in the country pays attention to fruit growing in the country, with almost all state subsidies being distributed among livestock breeders and grain producers.

Last year, growers were forced to sell cherries at 35-40 cents per kilogram.

Apricots have also been hit by torrential rains this year. In Silistra alone, more than 70 decares of fruit trees have been destroyed.

The director of the national development base, Lyulyana Ivanova, says that after the last hail in the region, most of the trees have lost fruit.

According to experts, this year will be one of the worst for Bulgarian fruit growers from Danube Dobrudja.

As early as March, the frosts began to destroy the flowering trees near Tutrakan and Silistra, and the storms in April and May completely ruined the harvest.

Nearly 30,000 decares of apricots are grown in the Danube region of Dobrudja, and according to forecasts, the average yields this year will reach 550 kilograms per decare, and the harvesting will start earlier than usual.
