The scandal with fipronil eggs and egg products contaminated with the poisonous substance in Europe is growing. More and more countries are withdrawing infected shipments from their markets, which raises the logical question - what is the chance that the horror will affect Bulgaria as well.
According to experts, the chance of having infected eggs in our country is zero. Companies with infected eggs do not import products to Bulgaria.
The two farms, owned by a Dutch company, found themselves at the center of an affair that led to the withdrawal of eggs from the trade network of a number of European countries. Fortunately, their products have never been on the market in Bulgaria.
The egg scandal, which started a few days ago from Belgium and the Netherlands, was not overlooked by the native Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The opinion of the law enforcement authorities is that there is no data on the presence of contaminated egg products on the Bulgarian market.
At the moment it is accepted that the chance to find fipronil in food in our country is zero. The substance is generally banned in the treatment of food, but this is relatively recent. Only a few years ago, fipronil was widely used and there were no acute poisonings. Today it is used regularly and the doses are regulated by the control authorities, with a certain amount being distributed. Fipronil has not been available in Bulgaria for years, even for non-profit purposes.
