The study looked in detail at the eating habits of people in 197 countries around the world. The study, published in The Lancet Global, reports that consumption of fish and whole grains worldwide is increasing.

People from the most developed economic regions of the world - the United States, Europe, Canada, New Zealand and Australia most often reach for harmful foods.

In the study, researchers analyzed 17 of the foods most commonly linked to diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. The consumption of the most useful products in nature was also studied.

The countries with the lowest per capita incomes, such as Chad, Sierra Leone, Mali and the Gambia, have been at the top of the list for healthy diets.

According to this indicator, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Kazakhstan and Belarus perform the worst. The countries where they eat the most fruits and vegetables are Tunisia and Barbados, and the places where healthy foods are rarely served are Azerbaijan and Slovakia.

In summary, Western Europe is a leader in the consumption of unhealthy foods, followed by the inhabitants of the Old Continent, the Chinese and Indians.

In the United States, the picture was quite diverse. There has been an increase in the consumption of both healthy and unhealthy foods.

Although the consumption of fish and whole grains has increased over the last 20 years, the popular foods of fast food chains have higher levels for the same period.
