Oshawat is one of the traditional dishes that are served on Christmas Eve. It is made from dried fruits and tradition dictates that it be prepared a few days before the holiday. This winter fragrant tradition is far from obligatory only for this holiday.
Mandatory oshav is stored in a cold and dark place, and before putting on the festive table, sweeten with a little honey.

A classic recipe for a delicious oshav
Necessary products:

If you have decided to use the dried fruits from the store, then be sure to wash them first. It is best to soak them for a few hours in cold water, then put them to boil on the stove. It is important to follow them, as all fruits should soften well, but not become a pulp.
If you have decided to experiment and want to put 1-2 cinnamon sticks, then put them when the oshava is on the stove to release their aroma and add a different note to the traditional oshava.
Once all the fruit is cooked, put the oshava in the refrigerator to cool and add a little honey to sweeten it. Before our mothers and grandmothers did it 3-4 days before Christmas Eve, but today most housewives do it one day before the holiday.
Jelly oshav
We also offer you to experiment this year, for this purpose to prepare a different jelly oshav.
And so, after prepared the classic oshav, you should season it with brown sugar or honey of your choice. For every 500 milliliters of liquid, 10 grams of gelatin is added, and here it is important to estimate its amount, taking into account how much oshav you have prepared for the holiday dinner with your family.
Before that, be sure to soak the gelatin in cold water, following the instructions on the package. Then mix it with the hot already sweetened oshav.
Mix everything well until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Leave it like that prepared oshav cool to room temperature and pour into several bowls. Leave it to harden for 4-5 hours in the refrigerator.
You can serve it both in the bowls themselves and until you take it out of them, by first dipping them in hot water for this purpose. Then turn the dessert bowls into saucers, like the gelled oshav it will come out very easily.
Experiment in the kitchen and try different desserts, so you can always surprise your guests with something different at the festive table. If you also want to try something interesting, then you can safely prepare this year's jelly oshav for Christmas Eve or for no reason.
