Estrogen, or more specifically estrogen, is a steroid-female sex hormone. They are related to ovulation and sexual behavior of female individuals.
They are also found in male bodies, but in much smaller quantities. It is because of this fact that it was surprising to scientists to discover that estrogen levels in men's bodies have risen sharply in recent decades.
Two main factors are to blame for this increase - the entry into everyday life of chemical compounds that mimic the effect of estrogen (endocrine disruptors), as well as the excessive use of foods with certain amounts of estrogen.
The connection between food and estrogen has been talked about for a long time, but there is still no consensus on which of them really harm and which do not.
However, in the first place as estrogenic foods all experts put milk and products whose main ingredient is soy. And this is not surprising.
Due to the monstrous industrialization of modern farming, milk is obtained from cows that are raised in a laboratory and kept pregnant almost all year round so that they can produce more milk.
That is why the levels of estrogen contained in their milk are much higher than usual. And they respectively fall into the bodies of consumers.
The situation is similar with chickens (especially in our country), in whose bodies growth stimulants of entirely estrogenic nature are introduced.
Simple experience proves the effect of estrogen in milk on men. After consumption of fresh milk, the levels of serum estrogen and protoevogen increase significantly.
Immediately after this consumption, the levels of testosterone and two other male pituitary hormones fall, while at the same time the urinary levels of the three estrogens - E1, E2 and E3 are elevated.
However, it is surprising why after taking the amount in the male body there is no increase in the more active estrogen - estradiol.
And on the other hand - in an identical test with women, after consuming milk, they showed absolutely no change in estrogen levels.
Soy products are thought to have the greatest "estrogen-like effects". This is due to the high content of phytoestrogens in them.
They are natural substances that mimic the action of estrogen with its similar chemical structure to it.
Estrogen has carcinogenic properties. In women, it affects the development of breast and uterine cancer, and when it exceeds its amounts in the male body, it looks for the cause of prostate cancer.
However, when synthesized in normal amounts, estrogen can actually be extremely beneficial for men, as this hormone binds to higher levels of cardiovascular lipoproteins.
These are spherical macromolecular complexes of lipids and proteins in the blood that take cholesterol out of the body. In addition, estrogen helps maintain the work of androgen cell receptors.
