Villar Blanc (Villard blanc) is a hybrid white grape variety originating in France. It was obtained after crossing the varieties Zeibel 6468 and Zeibel 6905 in Montpellier.

The variety was selected in 1960 and quality white wines are produced from it. The Vilar Blanc harvest can be used for crossbreeding with other grape varieties, from which both white and red wines can be produced.

In addition to France, the variety is distributed in Brazil, USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Hungary.

The agricultural areas with Villar Blanc have declined dramatically over the last decade as French producers have for several years insisted on replacing it with higher quality varieties from which to produce more expensive wine.

Features of Villar Blanc

The variety is medium ripening and has a high fertility. Suitable growing soils for light and poor limestone. The vines have strong growth and are resistant to infections such as mildew and phylloxera.

The leaves are of medium length, with three to five cross-sections without fibers.

The bunch of the variety Villar Blanc is cylindrical in shape and of medium density. Its nipples are medium in size, elliptical in shape, yellow-green in color and thick skin. Its sucrose reaches 23 grams and its acidity - from 6.5 to 10 grams.

The grapes produce quality white wines that are dry and fresh with a pale yellow color. The produced wine combines perfectly with aromatic cheeses and seafood delicacies, making it one of the best table wines. It has a slightly bitter taste and a neutral aroma.

Production of Villar Blanc

During the ripening period of the grapes, several samples are periodically taken from it in order to establish the occurrence of the physiological and technological maturity. This is necessary in order to schedule the exact time for harvesting.

The grapes themselves can be harvested manually or mechanically - with grape harvesters. Manual grape harvest is characterized by high labor intensity and commitment for a certain period of a significant number of workers, but on the other hand there is a quality selection of grapes when picking and avoids injury to berries and vines, which almost always occurs in mechanized grape harvest.

The grapes that arrive in the cellar first go through the so-called receiving tray, where the control over the received grapes is carried out and the unnecessary bunches and injured grains are removed.

The next stage is the crushing of the grapes, as the grains are usually separated from the bunches. Pneumatic presses are most often used for it. Their task is to separate all solid particles from the grapes - skins and seeds.

Thus purified grapes are ready for fermentation. The initial rapid fermentation can take place in a large fermenter, and then the quiet fermentation can take place in a small wooden vessel.

During the rapid fermentation, a foamy diaper forms on the surface of the must, and above it there is a dense cloud of carbon dioxide, whose role is to isolate oxygen from the air.

Villar Blanc belongs to the sensitive white wines, in which it is very important to maintain a constant temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.

Serving Villar Blanc

Villar Blanc should be served slightly chilled - at a temperature of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. Under no circumstances should ice be added to it, as this will spoil its specific taste.

To avoid parts of the cork from getting into the wine, it is not recommended to turn the bottle, the cork or to pierce it.

The edge of the bottle should be the fulcrum for the corkscrew with which the cap is pulled out.

The cups are filled to three quarters of their volume. If the room is very warm, the bottle should be placed in a cooling vessel.

The right glass to serve Villar Blanc is the so-called tulip, because the wine is fresh. In this glass, the tip of the tongue protrudes slightly forward, where our sweet receptors are, feeling the carbon dioxide - the freshness of the wine.

Several staple foods combine perfectly with this wine. It is recommended not to consume highly fragrant and spicy dishes with Villar Blanc.

A perfect combination will be obtained with seafood. Squid, shrimp, lobster and other crustaceans will be perfect Villar Blanc. The fish will also go well with wine, whether roasted, fried or grilled. Of the cheeses, harder and fragrant goat cheeses are recommended.

Chicken dishes can also be combined with white wine. It will go well with fatter dishes, as their wine has a pronounced acidity and freshness.
