In fact, the Romans were one of the later admirers of wine. If we go even further back in time, we will learn about the Christian legend of Noah's ark, which stopped in Mount Ararat, and the first crop that Noah planted was the vine. It is clear that the cultivation of the vine took place in ancient times, probably with the discovery that the grapes left in storage, quickly begin to ferment.

For thousands of years, man has used this feature of fresh fruit to produce a drink that has become increasingly popular. Today there are many wine grape varieties. They produce wine from the two main types - red and white. We will briefly dwell on some of the most famous grape varieties for red and white wine.

It is easy to know that it originates from France. Cabernet Franc massifs are grown in the southern parts of the country. It is combined with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties, without being the dominant variety.

Cabernet Sauvignon

This is without a doubt the most famous variety grapes for red wine. It is distributed all over the world and feels very good in oak barrels. For this reason, wines mature in them for a long time. The wine obtained from this variety, or combined with Merlot and Mavrud, has harmoniously developed aromatic and taste qualities.

This is one of the Bulgarian grape varieties for red wine. Its distinctive feature is that it has high sugar content, but it is not resistant to cold. The grapes are from late ripening. The massifs are mainly in the southwestern part of our country, but Mavrud is grown in other places as well. The wine obtained from Mavruda is strongly alcoholic, with a dense taste and well balanced. They have a rich ruby color and mature in oak barrels.

Merlot

This is the world leader in red grape varieties. Merlot wines do not mature. They are drunk like young wine because of their softness. However, their potential for aging is great, there are wines that mature for many years and are very popular among lovers.

Pinot Noir

This is the red grape variety from which the wines from the Burgundy region are derived. Pinot Noir are very famous and expensive because they are of very high quality.

Pamid

This variety is used to make wine that can be drunk immediately. It is called table wine and has a light and fresh taste, and the color is bright red and pink. Pamid belongs to the so-called thin wines.

Muscat is our native variety, which is obtained after mixing the varieties Dimyat and Riesling. The center where these are produced White wines, is the region of Karlovo.

Mavrud

This is our variety that has never lost its prestige. The wines produced by him are liked and loved as a symbol of Bulgarian winemaking. The variety is a national pride. The main massifs are in the Thracian lowland, but new ones are also planted along the Black Sea coast and southwestern Bulgaria. Difficult to grow variety, but suitable for aging wines.

The strength of white wine is in the freshness and taste of fresh grapes.
