Macedonia became the third country in the world after Iceland and Bolivia, which said goodbye to unhealthy fries and burgers at the American fast food chain McDonald's.

At the end of last month, all seven restaurants of the chain, which were located on the territory of our western neighbor, closed their shutters at the same time.

According to McDonald's European communications director Agnes Vandai, the reason for the giant's temporary withdrawal from its business in Macedonia is the revocation of the license of the chain's current franchise partner, the Macedonian company SJ.

The company first entered the Macedonian market 16 years ago. During this time, the chain opened 7 restaurants in our western neighbor, most of them in the capital Skopje.

Another possible explanation for the withdrawal of the global fast food giant can be sought in the low interest of Macedonian citizens in the food offered by the company.

At the end of last year, under similar circumstances, McDonald's withdrew from its business in Bolivia, which officially became the first country in the world to say "NO" to Big Mac.

After nearly 14 years of fighting the locals, in an attempt to change their eating habits, countless promotions and hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses, McDonald's finally admitted its loss and withdrew from the Bolivian market.
