Borage or Pyrenean borage is a perennial herbaceous plant of the cruciferous family. It has several medium-high stems, on top of which are the flowers. They bloom in May-June.
In folk medicine from borage flowers, seeds and leaves of the plant are used. It can be found along rivers, among grassy and rocky places, as well as in bushes throughout the country.
In Bulgarian folk medicine, the use of borage has been established for many years. It is among the best anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs.
It is most commonly used to treat problems with the gums, mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. The herb successfully lowers cholesterol, treats ulcers, colic, gastritis and enteritis.
Borage decoction is prepared for the treatment of these diseases. For this purpose, 1 tbsp. of the flowers are flooded with 300 ml of hot water. Leave to sit for about an hour, then strain. From the received is taken once a day. It is used for all problems with the digestive system, colds, bronchitis and respiratory infections.
The flowers of the plant contain the non-toxic pyrolysis alkaloid thesine, which successfully fights the symptoms of these diseases.
In addition to the flowers of borage, the seeds are also used from the plant. Healing oil is extracted from them, which is used to regulate the hormonal and metabolic system in the human body.
In addition, borage seed oil is a good remedy against premenstrual syndrome in women. All these properties the plant is due to the rich content of gamma-lonolenic acid in its composition.
Borage seed oil is difficult to extract at home. It is best to buy from a pharmacy or specialty store. It is most often used for hormonal problems.
All parts of the borage are rich in oleic and palmitic acid. Therefore, it should not be overdone, as it can raise blood pressure. Not recommended for people with heart problems, pregnant and lactating women.
