In recent years, more and more people are choosing to bring lunch to the office instead of choosing dishes of dubious origin and unclear quality of ingredients. Along with this solution, however, come some problems - how to choose the most appropriate vessel that is safe, comfortable and light enough. So many people resort to reusable or disposable plastic boxes.

However, they are not the best choice, say scientists from Taiwan. The placement of hot food in plastic containers, regardless of whether by the time of consumption they are already cold, poses serious health risks. In particular, plastic can damage our kidneys. But how?

Due to the high temperature, the substance melamine is released. It is contained not only in the boxes, but in all other plastic products - bowls, cups, forks, knives. It increases the risk of kidney stones.

The Taiwanese came to this conclusion after observing two groups of people - half of them fed from plastic containersand the others - from ceramic. All volunteers give urine samples. At a later stage, their roles change, and people are tested again.

The results - the levels of the dangerous substance are elevated in those who ate in the plastic containers. And some qualities of the products additionally contribute to the release of melamine. Hot food directly affects the plastic - and this is not surprising for anyone, knowing what happens to it when heated. Everyone has had accidents.

However, it turns out that the production of the toxic substance increases and if we put acidic food in a plastic container - it also stimulates the release of melamine. It makes plastic toxic not only to the kidneys, but also to our whole body.

Yes plastic boxes are a suitable choice only in some situations. If you do not reheat your food or mainly bring dishes that are consumed cold, then there is no problem to choose plastic. However, strive for it to be of good quality.

In case you have a microwave at work and you have a habit of reheating your food before preparing your lunch for work, choose dishes made of another material. Ceramics, glass, aluminum, even the recently popular degradable bamboo are suitable.
