21 people have died in Turkey after consuming alcohol labeled Bulgar Rakas. Another 15 people, victims of the drink, were hospitalized in critical condition, the Hurriyet newspaper writes.

Doctors are adamant in their conclusion that Bulgar Rakus was the cause of death of 21 people, as each of them drank the alcohol in question hours before his death.

The brandy, whose name literally means Turkish brandy from Turkish, is a strong aniseed liquid, which is offered in the retail chains in Bayrampasha, Gaziosmanpasha, Bagchilar, Fatih, Istanbul.

According to the health authorities, the consumption of even insignificant amounts of dangerous alcohol can have fatal consequences, which is why it is extremely important to stop selling it.

Manufacturers, distributors and direct sellers have already been arrested in the case. A large-scale operation to seize thousands of bottles of poisonous goods throughout Turkey has also been launched.

The suspects have been charged with premeditated murder. As of October 18, a total of 89 people have been admitted to hospital after consuming the alcohol in question, Nova TV reported.

According to Zaman, police reached an organized group that produced and distributed illegal poisonous alcohol. The suspects are 15 people, one of whom told authorities that he had been deceived by a distributor who sold him methyl instead of ethyl alcohol.

I'm not that stupid. I've made brandy before. Distributors are responsible for the deaths, the man told the Dogan news agency.

In 2005, 22 people died in Turkey from mass alcohol poisoning. After an investigation, it became clear that the smuggled brandy was the cause of their death.
