The new bread standard was introduced more than a month ago. Authorities expected it to improve the taste and quality of the indispensable product on the table. However, these assumptions remained only in the realm of good wishes.

A large-scale inspection by the Food Agency found that half of the 1,700 bread establishments inspected did not meet the requirements. Food manufacturers do not comply with the standard, especially in the field of hygiene and the content of labels. Another 2,300 bakeries in the country are yet to be inspected.

The state agency plans to deal with violators by dividing them into separate categories, according to the level of compliance. The agency promises to oblige the bread producers to improve their systems within a period set by the inspectors. Otherwise, severe sanctions will follow.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food, represented by the newly established agency, reassures consumers that inspections will soon be carried out in another 10,000 food companies.

During this time, the surest way to provide quality bread for the table is to prepare it yourself.

Preparation

The yeast is dissolved in warm water and sugar is added. Set aside for 10 minutes. Add the tomato juice and stir.

Sift the flour in stages, add the garlic, aromatic spices, and knead a pliable dough, finally adding the butter and salt (if you also use pesto, grated yellow cheese, add them together with the dried garlic).

Form the dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl (envelope), cover and leave for 1 hour. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and place the yellow cubes. Roll up. Place in a greased bread pan (26 x 12), cover with greased cling film and leave for another 30 minutes.

Bake in a preheated oven at 210 C for about 30 - 40 minutes.
