The ice in the drinks was determined to be dangerous more than 30 years ago. He was responsible for the outbreak of a norovirus epidemic in the United States in 1987 that provoked local authorities to declare quarantine in four states. In addition, due to the cold drinks in 1991, an epidemic broke out in Latin America, killing 17 people.
Now a study by experts from Clemens University, USA, found that lemons in the drink are just as dangerous as frozen cubes. The researchers conducted research in bars and restaurants in more than 17 countries in North America and Europe. Experts have found that when hands are dirty, the dangerous bacteria of Escherichia coli, causing infections, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps and fever, are most easily transmitted to wet lemons and ice.
The data showed that the possibility of this happening is more than 98.2%. If the lemons are dry before being placed in the drink, the chance of bacterial metabolism drops to 30%. The analysis showed that more than 70% of the lemons used to be placed in beverages contain an environment rich in dangerous microorganisms.
Scientists have found more than 29 species of pathogenic bacteria on lemons, offered to Americans and Europeans with their drinks. The situation was even more frightening on the ice. Nearly 89% of the frozen cubes housed a dangerous and rich range of bacteria. Also in 62% of the utensils in bars and restaurants lived a tiny world of bacteria capable of seriously infecting humans.
