The inspections of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency in connection with the forthcoming St. Nicholas Day are in full swing, as the same violation is found in the fish offered in our country.

Most of the traders have registered improper storage of fresh and frozen fish, Nova TV reports.

Mass sellers in our country display their goods in a prominent place to entice customers, but in this way they pollute the fish and increase the health risks in case of consumption.

The inspections this year will also monitor the conditions for breeding fish. If it is a reservoir, it must be registered as a livestock farm with the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

In this way, poachers who catch fish illegally and offer it to traders will be caught. The control is strongest in Varna, where fish and seafood have been confiscated in the last 10 days alone.

Shortly before the holiday, traders in our country have raised the price of fresh carp, which traditionally should be served at the festive table. The kilogram of live carp has reached BGN 6, and it is expected to sell BGN 10 per kilogram on the holiday itself, Monitor newspaper reports.

The cheapest this year will be the sprat for BGN 2.50 per kilogram. Fishermen attribute the higher prices to the bad weather, which prevents most boats from entering the sea.
