Before reaching the market network in our country, the bananas that are sold are gassed with dangerous chemicals, an investigation by BNT revealed.

The exotic fruits arrive from Ecuador in Burgas, where the locals treat them with dangerous chemicals, and then send them to their home markets, from where they reach the end user.

Tons of bananas arrive in Burgas every month. From this point the fruits are distributed to small and large retail chains in our country. Before that, however, they remain for storage in the Burgas warehouses for about 2 weeks.

During this time, they go through several procedures known in the official documentation as technological maturation. This process is performed only in halls where the temperature and humidity are constantly monitored.

The worrying moment for the customers comes from the fact that during these days the bananas are gassed with special devices and dangerous chemicals, accelerating their ripening up to 3 times.

The preparations used for this procedure contain 90% ethyl alcohol according to the information of BNT.

Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency also joined the investigation. However, their inspection did not reveal any irregularities.

Personally, I did not find a problem. I do not see suspicious procedures - says Dafinka Glavanska, who is a senior inspector at the Agency.

The employees of the investigated warehouse also denied the information that they process the bananas with dangerous chemicals before distributing them on the market network.

The manager of the base explained that he does not apply the method only because the company has been waiting for permission from the Food Agency since 2012, but explained that the use of ethyl alcohol in fruits is completely harmless.

Meanwhile, a scandalous video has appeared on the Internet, which clearly shows how fruits and vegetables that each of us eats are painted with pastry paints to look fresh and have a more attractive commercial appearance.

In no time, the video has become a real hit on social media, and although the paint is not harmful to health, user comments are far from encouraging.
