Food producers in Bulgaria should indicate on the labels the composition of fats, saturated fats, salt and sugar on the "traffic light principle", called by the association "Active Consumers".
The association insists that if the respective ingredient is in a low quantity compared to the daily needs of the human body, it should be colored green. Respectively, the average content should be marked in yellow or orange, and the high - in red.
Consumers borrow the idea from the UK, where this label has long been introduced. The traffic light system helps consumers to better understand what they are eating.
The consumer association offers the following system, based on the one created by the Food Standardization Agency of Great Britain. In green can be the following weights of the ingredients per 100 g of food - 3 g of fat, up to 1.5 g of saturated fat, up to 0.3 g of salt and up to 5 g of total sugar. In the column orange is recommended to fall - 3 to 20 g of fat, 1.5 to 5 g of saturated fat, 0. 3 to 1.5 g of salt, 5 g of total sugar to 12. 5 g added. Accordingly, foods containing more than 20 g of fat, more than 5 g of saturated fat, 1.5 g of salt and more than 12.5 g of added sugar per 100 grams of food must have an alarming red label. The indicators for the drinks are different.
The World Health Assembly (WHA) recommends restricting the marketing, advertising and promotion of foods for children under 16 who are low in nutrients but high in fat, sugar and salt. The World Organization is pushing for a ban on radio and television advertising of junk food between 6 and 9 p.m.
When trading in unhealthy foods for children, they should not use new media such as websites, social networks, etc. It is also contraindicated to stimulate the trade in unhealthy foods with free gifts, toys, collectibles. In advertisements and promotions of unhealthy foods for children not to use celebrities, cartoon characters, competitions, advise from SZA.
