Tempe is a vegetarian product that is popular mostly in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Tempeh is prepared using a technology similar to that of cheese fermentation.

Tempeh is made from soybeans, which are soaked, cracked and after cleaning, boiled, but not until ready. Vinegar and yeast with beneficial bacteria are added.

Thus a fermented product with a complex aroma is obtained. It resembles the aroma of meat, mushrooms and walnuts. The taste of tempeh is similar to chicken.

Tempeh cannot be stored for long. Often the sliced tempeh is fried in oil and various vegetables and spices are added.

The tempeh structure allows it to be used as a filling for burgers. Tempeh is served with garnish, in soups, in fried and stewed dishes, and also as a stand-alone dish. Due to its low caloric content, it is used as a dietary product. Tempe goes well with fish and seafood.
