If you follow a strict diet in your desire to lose weight, but do not get enough sleep, the effect of your fasting will be negligible. This conclusion was reached by experts from the University of Chicago, whose chief supervisor is Dr. Plamen Penev

Low-calorie diets help to lose weight only with enough sleep, experts from the entourage of the Bulgarians are adamant.

When people go on a diet, the result of the limited amount of calories is pure beast hunger. The body in such a situation becomes very economical in energy expenditure.

"This natural reaction gradually makes it increasingly difficult to lose weight through diet. When a limited amount of night sleep is added to this, hunger can increase and energy expenditure can be further reduced. This calls into question the success of the diet, "explains Dr. Penev.

In the study, 10 men and women between the ages of 35 and 49 were observed. They were all overweight or obese. They underwent two two-week courses on a standard low-calorie diet.

The participants in the experiment lived in a laboratory for sleep diagnostics. The study required that in the first two weeks all participants sleep 8.5 hours a day, and in the second - 5.5.

In both courses of the study, participants lost almost the same weight, losing an average of 3 pounds.

The researchers found that during the period when the volunteers slept more, the lost weight was mainly at the expense of adipose tissue. With insufficient sleep, weight loss came from muscle tissue, not fat.

The definitive finding of the scientists from the experiment is that enough sleep not only increases fat loss, but also helps control the feeling of hunger.
