The wine is the drink of the gods, but this does not prevent their followers from regularly taking advantage of the heavenly gift. White, red, sometimes pink, the drink has a unique taste and is suitable for any occasion or dish.

Wine is loved all over the world, but some nations prefer it more than others. Where the drink is raised on a pedestal, the Royal Wine Institute of Great Britain recently tried to find out in partnership with the University of Kadrif and the sociological agency in Statista. Not surprisingly, the top ten countries where most wine is drunk are in Europe.

Italy ranks tenth in this ranking. In the Apennines, an average Italian drinks 34 liters a year. One position is followed by Moldova, where 34.18 liters of wine are drunk annually.

In eighth place in the ranking are our western neighbors from Macedonia, as according to the data a Macedonian drinks 40.41 liters of grape drink per year. Number seven takes us to the heart of the Alps, where it turns out that in addition to chocolate, the Swiss also love wine. There is no other way, since every average inhabitant of the mountainous country drinks 41 liters a year.

In sixth place is Portugal, where data show that 41.74 liters of wine are drunk each year. Surprisingly, and beyond any logic, in fifth place is considered by many to be the Mecca of wine - France. The average French drink 42.52 liters of wine (probably home-made) every year.

The fourth and third positions take us back to the Balkans. Slovenia and Croatia, where the famous Dalmatian vineyards grow, are ranked there, respectively. Slovenians drink 44.07 liters, and Croats - 44.5 liters each year. In second place is the dwarf state of Andorra. The few Andorrans (less than 80,000) manage to drink 46.26 liters of wine each year.

We started the article with a statement about the divine nature of wine. Perhaps there is some truth in it, as the country of the direct correspondent of the heavens here on Earth convincingly and unequivocally ranks first in the rankings.

It turns out that it is in the Vatican that most wine is drunk. Every inhabitant of the micro-state drinks 66 liters of wine every year. Maybe it has something to do with all the holy communions that are done there?

Where are we?

Bulgaria ranks 35th in the ranking. Before us is the island nation of Aruba, and behind us is the Czech Republic. According to the data, the average Bulgarian drinks 20.60 liters of wine every year.
