Trebiano / Trebbiano / is a famous white grape variety that is very common in Italy. There are about 50,000 hectares of it. The variety is usually used in blended wines, but can also be used to make varietal wines. Apart from Italy, it is grown in many other places around the world, including Canada, USA, Spain, France, Portugal, Australia, Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Moldova and others. There are also massifs with Trebiano in our country, although not large.

Trebiano is characterized by upright vines. The leaves are large, densely rounded, usually trifoliate. They are rough and fluffy on the underside. Their upper side is painted dark green and the lower side is relatively light. The clusters are of medium size, compact, having a cylindrical or conical shape. They have pointed edges.

The berries are round, medium-sized, initially green, and after ripening yellowish. They are equipped with a strong and elastic shell, under which is hidden delicate and watery meat. Great care must be taken when harvesting mechanically, as the delicacy of the flesh makes the fruit vulnerable. The fruits of Trebiano are characterized by a high acid level, delicate aroma, unobtrusive taste. Sometimes fruity notes are noticed. Their sugar content is about 17 percent.

Trebiano seems to grow best on sandy-clay soils in sunny and warm weather. It ripens relatively late - in the first half of October. If grown in the right terrain, there is good fertility and rapid development of the vines. Trebiano is resistant to diseases, but if it grows on sands, roundworms can appear in its roots.
