Bulgarian bread is a mixture of frozen blanks, although our grain industry is a leader in our agriculture. Most of the grain goes for export, announced Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ognyan Boyukliev from the Institute for Economic Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

It is scandalous for Bulgarian bread to be made mainly from baking mixes and frozen preforms, as we produce surplus grain and export it, the expert told the Bulgarian National Radio.

He added that such data are not exported in official statistics surveys. For this purpose, you must have the operational information of the customs.

The report of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences also shows that only 7% of the apples that were offered on our market last year were Bulgarian. The remaining 93% of the apples came from abroad.

In the case of tomatoes only 22% were Bulgarian, in a place produced in our country only 33%, in the case of milk the Bulgarian production on the market has reached 44%. The data are from a survey conducted in 2015.

The final results show that despite the reforms of the last 20 years, Bulgarian agriculture is still one of the most inefficient sectors and although the conditions in our country are conducive to development, we still buy mostly imported fruits and vegetables.

Economists have estimated that agrarian reform has cost the public sector $ 8 billion and $ 6 billion from the European Union's common agricultural policy.

The economic study shows that livestock farmers and dairy farmers are not encouraged enough to cover the domestic market's needs for quality meat and milk.

If this negative trend continues, the products of domestic production will decrease with each passing year.
