Following notification, the quality control of the meat products offered was strengthened through the Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Foods and Feeds (RASFF).

The first results, which were sent for research earlier this month, showed that there is investment horse meat in the production of four products of two of the leading meat processing enterprises.

Meat products and sausages of the Karlovo company Bonnie AD and the Petrich producer Mes-Co EOOD were withdrawn from the trade network, and the companies were threatened with fines amounting to BGN 10,000.

The results of the second batch, sent for testing with another 25 samples of sausages and other meat products, arrived in the middle of last week.

Existence of unregulated content of horse meat was found in a meat product sazdarma, produced by the Sofia company "Rosvela 2005" EOOD.

The last, fourth batch with 25 samples of meat products was sent on 25.03.2013 to a certified European laboratory. Its results are expected to arrive in early April 2013.
