Inspectors from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) conducted a joint operation with employees of the Regional Police Directorate in the city Burgas conducted a successful operation against illegal fish traders.
The mobile groups of inspectors were directed to the road section Primorsko - Burgas, which has the reputation of an unregulated "fish market".
The experts, supported by the uniformed police officers, found and sanctioned a total of 5 unregulated points for selling fish along the road.
During the inspection, more than 210 kg of fish of various species were detained. A total of seven acts on illegal trade in food were drawn up. The fine for violations provided for in the Food Act varies between BGN 1,500 and 300.
The seized fish was without documents of origin and was stored in violation of the hygienic and sanitary requirements for storage of products. This makes it unfit for consumption and it will be sent for destruction to a slaughterhouse.
This is the first action of its kind against unregulated fishmongers, which are a common sight in the area.
The Regional Directorate of the Food Safety Agency (OD of the BFSA) assures that the last action against irregular fish traders will not remain.
In the midst of the active summer season, the employees of the BFSA will continue to work at full speed to stop such illegal trade, which is carried out in violation of all hygiene and sanitary requirements and poses a risk to human health.
