The most expensive Scotch whiskey - McAllen, which was offered in one of the hotels in the resort of St. Maurice, turned out to be fake. The limited-edition bottle, which was said to have been produced in 1878, was no different from ordinary whiskey, which you can order at any bar.

However, a Chinese millionaire had paid $ 10,000 for this Scotch whiskey. The amount is a record for only two glasses and for this reason whiskey was defined as the most expensive in the world.

The bottle was opened especially for Zhang Wei. He drank only 200 milliliters and was satisfied with the taste, although he refrained from boasting about the most expensive drink in the world.

However, experts told the BBC that from the very beginning they doubted the authenticity of alcohol. The first to raise doubts was the discrepancy between the cork and the label on the bottle.

So they advised the hotel management to check if this whiskey was really worth the money. Tests have shown that the scotch is mixed - it contains 60% malt and 40% grain, and was definitely produced after 1970, and not in the 19th century, as claimed in the menu.

The owners of the hotel claim that they had no idea about it. The governor received the bottle from his father, claiming that it had been passed down from generation to generation.

However, the hotel administration returned the money to the Chinese millionaire, for whom they opened the bottle. The owner of the hotel personally flew to Beijing to announce the results of the expertise and return the money to Zhang Wei.
