We have all heard that a glass of red wine is good for the heart. We have also heard that alcohol harms our whole body, especially the liver. So it turns out that we are in a dilemma - is it useful red wine or not?
The truth is that studies do show that red wine reduces the risk of many diseases. However, there is a measure that we should not pass.
Red wine is responsible for the so-called French paradox. Namely - in France fewer people suffer from cardiovascular disease. It has come to be believed that this fact is due to red wine.
The truth - red wine contains nutrients. Among them are antioxidants, which studies show are beneficial for a healthy heart and the whole body, and even reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer. However, the amount of these antioxidants is not large - we need to drink a few bottles to achieve the effects. And that would hurt us.
The drink is also believed to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death. Thus, it becomes the most useful alcoholic beverage. People who consume 150 milliliters of wine a day have a 32% lower risk of such diseases than those who do not drink alcohol.
Consumption of red wine is also associated with a reduced risk of certain types of cancer - colon cancer, ovarian and prostate cancer. The drink is also believed to reduce the risk of dementia, depression, insulin resistance and diabetes.
However, we must be careful with the amount. More than 2-3 glasses a day can lead to alcoholism, cirrhosis, premature death, weight gain. A fact you should not forget - alcohol is extremely high in calories in all its forms. At the same time, we do not get the satiety that food gives us. And wine is one of the alcohols with the most useful ingredients.
However, stick to moderate consumption. It is estimated that it is 1-2 glasses of wine a day. Experts recommend that we have at least 2 days a week in which we do not consume any alcohol.
