We bought 5.4 percent more juices and fruit drinks in the last year, according to a Nielsen study. Although the percentage has increased, our country remains one of the last places in the consumption of fruit juices.
Statistics from the European Association of Fruit Drinks show that the highest consumption is in Malta, where a person from the country drinks an average of 33.6 liters per year.
In Germany, there is 30 liters of fruit juice per capita, and in Finland and the Netherlands, an average of 25 liters of juice is consumed per person per year.
The average Bulgarian buys only 8 liters of juice for 1 calendar year.
The most preferred taste of our compatriots is orange - 48.8%. Second place is occupied by the mixed flavors between orange, peach and apple. This trend in demand has persisted over the last few years.
Most fruit drinks in Bulgaria are bought in cardboard packaging - 62.7%, followed by juices in plastic packaging - 26.4% and in a glass bottle - 7.5%.
More juices are bought by women, and their consumption is intended mainly for the home - nearly 90% of Bulgarians drink fruit drinks at home.
When buying juices, Bulgarians attach great importance to packaging.

A juice directive came into force on 28 April, stating that producers must not add sugar or other sweeteners to them. The sweet taste of the drink should come only from the fruit.
