This Saturday, for the 12th consecutive year, a traditional bean festival will be held in the Rhodopean village of Smliyan. All guests of the festival will benefit from ecologically clean beans from the village.

The event will be held in front of the community center in the village from 12 o'clock, as the local producers will prepare beans according to Rhodope recipes and will offer their guests completely free of charge.

The Bean Festival in the village of Smilyan is one of the most significant tourist events for the Smolyan region, attracting thousands of Rhodope bean lovers every year.

On the annual holiday there will be competitions for the best panel made of Smilyan beans and a traditional culinary competition, which will prepare various dishes of Smilyan beans. This year's winner of the Producer of the Year award will also be chosen.

The beginning of the holiday in Smilyan was set in 2002 and is associated with the most typical local product - beans, which is known throughout our country.

Smilyan beans are one of the emblems of the village and its festival, which is always held on the last Saturday of November, marks the end of the period for processing the annual harvest.

This year the harvest of Smilyan beans is expected to exceed 30 tons, producers from the region of Smilyan commented to FermerBg.

This year's bean yields are better than last year's harvest, as heavy rains have had a positive effect on bean development.

However, no changes in last year's prices are forecast. The large beans from the Smilyan harvest will be sold for between BGN 8 and 10 per kilogram, and the small ones - for between BGN 6 and 7 per kilogram.

The kilogram of large Smilyan beans should not exceed BGN 10, producers say. Farmers also add that packaged imported beans with a fake label Smilyanski or Rhodope beans are sold en masse.

Producers say that the origin of beans can be guaranteed only through the presence of the original label of the Credit Cooperative in Smilyan, which owns the trademark of Smilyan beans.
