Mario Batali is an American chef of Italian descent and is defined by many professionals as the king of Italian cuisine. He himself is not limited to it, although he knows a lot about Italian dishes, as well as the history and culture of this type of cuisine.
Batali was born in Seattle. He graduated from the Spanish Theater and soon after began working for Marco Pierre White. White is a popular British chef and TV presenter.
He is known for his enviable culinary skills and contribution to modern international cuisine, as well as the fact that he is the youngest chef to receive the three Michelin stars. Or in a few words - a real culinary guru, from whom you can learn a lot about the profession.
Batali started there as a dishwasher and pizzeria and to this day remembers funny stories during his apprenticeship. One that has left the deepest memory in his mind is how he prepared the risotto, which White did not like at all. Batali defended his work and said it was cooked perfectly - Chief White got angry and threw the hot risotto at Batali.
But the young and still inexperienced chef Batali did not leave it at that - he secretly poured two handfuls of salt into White's two main sauces. And despite this unfortunate story, which from the distance sounds fun, the two have a great friendship and speak with real respect for each other.
After an apprenticeship with Chief White, Batali went to work and study in a village in northern Italy, and then returned to the United States to open an Italian restaurant. And so - the boy's dream became a reality and today he is the owner and co-owner of some of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, New York, Singapore and others.
This is not his only occupation - he writes books, has several prestigious awards, and also has a foundation to raise funds to help children. He is the host of the shows "Chewing" and "Iron Chef", and in 2008 he was ranked seventh in Forbes magazine's ranking of the "10 richest chefs in the world". Four years later he is in fifth place in the same ranking. Personally, the chef is married and has two sons.
He is extremely popular in the United States not only for his culinary skills, but also for the fact that he constantly organizes or participates in some charitable initiatives. What is most important in cooking, according to Batali, is to prepare food with fresh products and in a simple way.
The chef is convinced that mixing too many flavors is not only not a manifestation of professionalism, but even a manifestation of bad taste. The key in the kitchen and the successful dishes, according to him, are the good combination of products, imagination and of course your own taste.
