Some of the world's largest cereal producers plan to stop using recycled paper for their product packaging.

This comes after scientists from Switzerland recently discovered that the boxes in which cereals are stored are carcinogenic and pose a great risk to the health of consumers.

Researchers in Zurich found toxic chemicals in storage boxes obtained mainly from recycled newspapers. According to scientists, the packaging of recycled paper products can affect the food product, even though it is placed in an additional bag.

This became clear after the Swiss researchers analyzed more than 119 products from the German market, in which they found toxic substances that are between 10 and 100 times above the permissible minimum.

Chemicals called mineral oils, which originate from printing inks, can have an extremely negative effect on a person's internal organs, the BBC said in a statement.

According to the media, most manufacturers around the world are currently pursuing a policy of stopping packaging in paper that causes cancer. It turns out that the packaging of some spaghetti, pasta and rice is also carcinogenic.

At the same time, reputable organizations in the food industry claim that there is currently no conclusive evidence that the mineral oils in recycled paper pose a dangerous risk to human health.

However, they tend to participate in future analyzes that categorically confirm or refute the assumptions made by Swiss scientists.

At the moment there is no official information whether the Bulgarian paper packaging of some products poses a risk of cancer.
