The price of lamb will remain the same as last year's St. George's Day - between 12 and 15 levs per kilogram. In live weight, the lambs will be sold for up to BGN 6.5 per kilogram, and in the Veliko Tarnovo region they will even be offered for payment.

Days before St. George's Day, several enterprising breeders decided to make it easier for their customers to pay by giving them the opportunity to buy a lamb on installment.

The owners of the area say that they understand the financial constraints of most people and that is why they have decided to offer them attractive leasing offers for lamb this year.

And for this holiday most Bulgarians prefer to buy lamb directly from home farms to be completely sure that the meat is fresh and high quality.

Gergyov lambs, which were slaughtered no more than 2 months before the holiday, will be in demand.

The price per kilogram of meat will remain last year's values. In stores, lamb will be sold from 12 to 15 levs per kilogram, and in live weight its price will not exceed 6.5 levs, said the chairman of the National Sheep Breeding Association Biser Chilingirov.

According to the accounts of the farmers in our country, with these prices per kilogram, a live lamb for the holiday will cost you between 210 and 230 leva.

The Food Agency advises that when buying meat from the store, look for stamps and labels with information about their origin, quality and expiration date. In the case of live lambs, owners are required to show documents from a veterinarian who certify that the animal is healthy.

Demand for lamb is expected to be high in the days before St. George's Day. However, there should be no price increase. Large food chains are already loaded with meat, but say supplies from home slaughterhouses are lower this year due to bluetongue in animals.

However, the industry claims that imports from abroad are sufficient to prevent a shortage of lamb before the holiday.
