The superiority of hot chocolate for both health and nutrition will soon have the same preference for tea and coffee in America as in Spain - Thomas Jefferson.
If the president had issued a law and registered it hot chocolate in the constitution, today everyone would say - Let's go for cocoa! (instead of coffee). It is not too late to make this a reality!
The day of hot cocoa reminds you that your options go far beyond tea or coffee when it comes to your morning hot drink.
History of the day of hot cocoa
The story of the origin of chocolate takes us back in time much longer than most people can imagine. Cocoa was first discovered by European researchers in South America, where locals used it hundreds of years before the arrival of the colonizers.
We have reason to believe that the locals had not contacted Europe before because they did not want to share this delicious drink with the rest of the world. The first discovery of cocoa can be traced back to the mid-twentieth century, but many archaeologists believe it existed much longer.
Of course, the chocolate of those days is very different from the one we consume now, as sugar has not yet found its way to America. Instead, the drink is flavored with vanilla and often chili and is served at different temperatures depending on the recipe used. In 1828 the first powdered chocolate was made.
How to celebrate the day of hot cocoa
We think the best way to celebrate Hot Cocoa Day is to try every variety you can find. Make a gathering of friends and everyone can share their favorite recipe.
White and dark, with milk and or bitter, there are so many different hot cocoa recipes - 1 recipe for each! Our personal favorite is to make hot cocoa with 50/50 milk and sweetened condensed milk and chocolate / cocoa powder, followed by sprinkling cinnamon and grated dark chocolate on top. Rich and fragrant!
